Birthday Card Using Christmas Designer Series Paper

Although Christmas is over you likely, as I do, have Christmas designer series paper leftover. What to do with the pretty paper? A few ideas:
  • Create a few more Christmas cards to send. Yes, send cards after Christmas to anyone you missed! They will enjoy receiving them.
  • Make a project or cards to use next year.
  • If you didn't finish that home d├ęcor piece before the holidays? Complete it now so it's ready for next year!
  • Use the designer series paper and photos that you took or that were shared with you and create scrapbook layouts. Make sure to send the photos off to be printed.
  • Some designs can be used to create thank you or birthday cards!
Which idea do you like best? Any that you could put into action this week?

I decided to go with the last option and create a birthday card. The Painted Christmas designer series paper is pretty and can be used for birthdays, Christmas, winter celebrations, wreaths, thank you cards, etc. To add some layers to the card I stamped some leaf and pine needle images from the Christmas Season stamp set and die cut them out using the Seasonal Labels dies with the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine.

Another tip to use up your designer series paper is to add a few different designs onto your card. For my card I've used 3 designs in different sizes. The red design is actually a scrap piece that had been crumbled one day that I ripped the edges a bit before adding to this card.

Coolest Penguin Place Card Idea

Such lovely sentiments in the Penguin Place stamp set. This card I've used the "To the coolest friend ever" stamp but instead of stamping it as one piece I've split it up onto 2 lines. There are a few ways you can do that: use a Stampin' Write Marker to colour the section of words you want to stamp each time, cut apart the stamp to create 2 pieces, or you could use a sticky note to mask words that you don't want to touch the ink pad then remove the sticky note and stamp. Have you tried any of these techniques?
This card was one of 20 I made for a Stampin' Up! demonstrator swap where we used items from the Jul-Dec Mini Catalogue. Swaps are great way to receive cards using products I don't have and to see other card designs that can be used for inspiration when I'm creating. Since I had many cards to create and to quickly stamp the penguin multiple times and add the antlers in just the right spot I used the Stamparatus. As shown in the photo above I used mini sticky notes to mark the corner of the paper. On the right plate was the penguin stamp and the top plate was the antlers. You could also use the other side of the plates to add the beak and bowtie but I'd forgotten about stamping those images until after. Step 1 is to stamp the 1st penguin, Step 2 stamp the antlers, Step 3 turn the paper and stamp the penguin, Step 4 turn the paper and stamp the penguin for the last time. Once you have everything stamped replace the Basic White cardstock with another piece and repeat for all the cards you will make. I used the Stamparatus to help me create swap cards but you can use it to create a bundle of birthday or Christmas cards.
The Penguin Place stamp set and coordinating Penguin punch are in the 2021 Jul-Dec Mini Catalogue. While they are not retiring at the end of the catalogue, the bundle where you save 10% off the full price of both items is being retired. Purchase the Penguin Place bundle, that includes the stamp set and punch for $42.25 until January 3, 2022 and then both items will be available again in the 2022 Jul-Dec Mini Catalogue.

Penguin Place Christmas Ornaments

The penguin image from Stampin' Up!'s Penguin Place stamp set is adorable! And is the star of these Penguin Place Christmas Ornaments. Pair the stamp set and Penguin punch with Basic White and Smoky Slate cardstock, the Silver Foil Specialty pack and half of a plastic ball ornament, you can make these cute ornaments for your tree. If you wanted, you could fill some of the ornament with glitter or fake snow. I thought of it but didn't have either on hand. Or you could create this ornament without the plastic ornament piece itself. Since the plastic ornament has the hole for the ribbon you will need to either punch a small hole to thread the ribbon through or glue the ribbon to the backside of the scalloped circle.
How you can create these ornaments: Use the Layering Circles dies to cut one scalloped circle from the Silver Foil, using the plastic ornament for sizing. I found a package of plastic ornaments at Dollarama to use. Next up die cut 3 smaller circles, two from Basic White cardstock and one from Smoky Slate cardstock. Rip these in half. This will give you enough half circles to make 2 ornaments. Glue the half circles onto the Silver Foil scallop. I layered Basic White, Smoky Slate then Basic White with the nicer looking ripped edge showing. To add some sparkle to the ripped edges use some Wink of Stella. Add as little or as much as you want to get the sparkle to be what you want. Next up stamp the penguin and punch, making sure to stamp any accessories and cut those out as well. Layer the penguin over your snow mountain. The next part is where you'll need Stampin' Up!'s Fine Tip glue to adhere the plastic ornament half onto the scalloped Silver Foil. If you are adding glitter or snow to the ornament make sure to add it to the bulb before gluing it to the scalloped piece. Finish off the ornament with a piece of ribbon so you can hang it up!

Would you make an ornament like this one for your tree or to give to a friend? I hope to give these to my nephew who loves penguins!
